Best Places to Drink Wine on Maui

(UPDATED JUNE, 2019)

For many people, a romantic night on the lanai with a nice bottle of wine makes for a perfect vacation night. For others, part of the fun of vacation is going to a lively bar and laughing with friends. Here are five places on Maui that serve fantastic wines in fun and/or romantic settings.

1.) Matteo's Osteria (Wailea)
At the center of the wine bar at Matteo's sits Le Grand Cruvinet wine preservation and dispensing machine. It's basically the Rolls Royce of wine pouring/preserving machines and pretty much guarantees you'll always receive a fresh glass of wine. And oh what wines they serve. Matteo's features over 60 wines by the glass from all over Italy. These wines pair with some of the best Italian food you'll find on Maui. (Matteo's Osteria)

2.) Merriman's Maui (Kapalua)
Overlooking Kapalua Point, you'll be hard pressed to find better sunset views. Merriman's wine strategy is interesting... and we approve! They pour wines from mostly small, family-owned vineyards, eschewing the larger, nationally known wineries. So, while you may not find the wines you normally drink, you might just find something new to love. In general, these wineries use sustainable and organic practices to cultivate their wines. Beyond the wine, Merriman's has earned a reputation as serving some of the finest, locally sourced foods in Hawaii. (Merriman's Maui)

3.) Nick's Fish Market (Wailea)
With a 2000-bottle wine cellar, Wine Spectator has named Nick's Fish Market a Best of Award of Excellence five years running. That pretty much covers their wine credentials. Located in the Fairmont Kea Lani, Nick's features Mediterranean influenced cuisine with a Hawaiian twist. While they serve steaks and a killer rack of lamb, Nick's is primarily known for their fresh seafood. (Nick's Fish Market)

4.) The Pour House (Kapalua)
Serving locally sourced Italian food, the Pour House features a burrata cheese bar, fresh seafood and of course, great wine. If you’re with a group of six or more adults, we recommend their private, group wine tastings with cheese and charcuterie. (The Pour House)

5.) Lanai City Bar and Grille (Lanai)
If you're seeking a wine bar off the beaten path, why not go way off the path and step onto a boat (or helicopter) and visit Lanai? While Hawaii Ocean Project features an amazing snorkel trip to Lanai, if you want to experience the food and wine at the Lanai City Bar and Grille, you'll need to book a separate mode of transportation. But once you get there, you'll enjoy a menu full of locally sourced meats and seafood and a fun, extensive wine menu. (Lanai City Bar and Grille)
