The Roots of the Hawaii Ocean Project

Whether you've been on one of our cruises in the past or you're considering booking a Maui ocean tour with us, we'd like to give a little background about how the Hawaii Ocean Project came to be. To start, it's part of the Lahaina Cruise Company, which may be more recognizable to you, as it has been serving Maui vacationers and guests for over 40 years.

You can't run tours for 40 years without learning all the ins and outs of the process, including the smoothest way to operate with the highest guest satisfaction. Now, our boats are the largest and most comfortable in the historic Lahaina Harbor.

We couldn't have accomplished all this without the right people. The President and Senior Captain of our family fleet of ships is the respected Captain Dave Jung, who has been with the Lahaina Cruise Company since 1970. Over these years, he has become an authority on shipboard knowledge with an expert understanding of Hawaii's waters. His excellence and his guidance have been a great credit to the Lahaina Cruise Company, helping it to thrive over all these years.

We are part of a small community on a beautiful island in the middle of the Pacific, and we believe in giving back to the place that allowed us to grow into the company we are today. Our cruises are eco-friendly, and we've partnered up with leading scientists who are doing invaluable research in these waters. Our work supports that research, and we also offer a program through which passengers can donate to those efforts directly.

It is our mission to provide you with the finest experience you could hope for in a Maui ocean activity. At the same time, we support and promote scientific research that educates the public, enriches the scientific community around the world, and helps government entities make the right policy decisions based on those discoveries. Maui's marine ecosystem is a treasure, and we want you to experience it with us. That way, we can continue to thrive, serving guests and protecting that ecosystem.
