Maui Brown Water Advisory

Just a quick heads up... if you're planning on swimming near the shore of Maui and the water appears brown, it's advised you stay out of the water. Basically, a brown water advisory means the water is contaminated. If the water near your beach appears clear, you can ignore the brown water advisory.

So, what is the ocean contaminated with? Well, sometimes it's better not to know. But if you must know, runoff water entering the ocean could be any or all of the following: overflowing cesspools, sewer, manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris. Yuck.

The good news is if you’re scheduled for the Hawaii Ocean Project Lana’i Snorkel and Dolphin trip, we take you to places far enough from shore that you will NOT be affected by the brown water advisory. So you'll see tons of marine life and often dolphins swimming alongside the boat! If you’d like to book a trip, save 20% by using the promo code VIP20!
