Is there a reason people choose to live in and visit Hawaii? Beyond rainbows, tasty waves, migrating whales and gorgeous scenery, happiness is certainly a good reason! And for the seventh consecutive year, the Gallup National Health and Well-Being Index finds Hawaii to be the happiest state in the country.

Gallup polls people on five elements of well-being: Career, social, financial, community and physical. About 115,000 adults across the 50 states were polled, with roughly 500 coming from Hawaii. Hawaii actually ranked number one in three of the categories: career, social and financial well-being. In the other two categories, Hawaii placed in the top five.

While Hawaii was number one, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Utah rounded out the top five. West Virginia scored the worst grade. Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee were the next lowest.
