Headed out for an early morning boat tour out of the Lahaina Harbor? Or maybe you’re visiting from the midwest or east coast and have been up since 4:00 AM and need something to eat that isn’t overpriced hotel food? Or maybe you’re just looking for a fine cup of coffee? On Front Street in Lahaina, for coffee and breakfast before 7:00 AM, as far as we can tell, you really only have two choices: the Ocean Cafe and McDonald’s (well, sort of, as McDonald’s is actually two blocks off of Front Street and about a 1/2 mile from the Lahaina Wharf) and only one of these choices serves fresh, Maui-roasted coffee.
The Ocean Cafe opens for breakfast at 6:00 AM. If you’re looking for something quick to munch down before jumping on a boat or headed out to Hana, there’s a full compliment of danish, muffins and pastries. If you prefer something hot, we recommend the English muffin breakfast sandwich stuffed with scrambled eggs, cheese and your choice of sausage, bacon or ham. For something a little healthier, try the SP Bagel, a bagel sandwich with egg whites, spinach, cheese and, if you’d prefer, your choice of meat. The Ocean Cafe also serves steel cut oatmeal.
Of course, the main reason folks visit a cafe at 6:00 AM is coffee. The Ocean Cafe serves Maui Coffee Roasters, often cited as the best coffee roasted here on Maui. At Maui Coffee Roasters, they roast locally sourced beans in small batches, ensuring freshness of every roast.
Beyond, breakfast, the Ocean Cafe also serves hot dogs, sandwiches, veggie burgers, chili and more for lunch or a late afternoon snack.
The Ocean Cafe is open from 6:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Saturday (closed Sunday).
(Full disclosure: Hawaii Ocean Project owns the Ocean Cafe)
